HeartStart Skye
Heartstart Skye trains any member of the public that wishes to be trained free of charge, and also trains members of lucky2bhere and any community group receiving an AED (automated external defibrillator) in Emergency Life Support.
We also do yearly refresher training for all groups that have already have AEDs in their workplace or community.

The training consists of
- Priorities in checking casualties and calling for help.
- CPR = Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
- Care of the unconscious patient.
- Care of the conscious casualty, and patients with suspected heart attacks.
- Choking in Adults and children.
- Serious bleeding.
- Introduction to and the safe use of AEDs.
(1) How to check for danger and patient response. How to make a 999/112 call.
(2) Recognise cardiac arrest how to check for normal breathing how to do chest compressions and rescue breathing. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is done to the latest European Resuscitation Guidelines.
(3) Checking for patient response, how to open the airway, check for normal breathing, check for danger and putting the patient into the recovery position if appropriate.
(4) How to open the airway check for normal breathing and putting the patient into the recovery position if appropriate. Recognise the warning signs of a heart attack and dealing with a suspected heart attack.
(5) How to recognise a patient is choking and how to deal with it using back blows and abdominal thrusts. The difference between adults and children. Children are not just small adults.
(6) How to deal with serious bleeding using techniques including pressure and elevation.
(7) What is an AED, what does it do, when to use it, how to use it and how to use it safely.
(8) Finally you get a certificate.
The course takes 2hrs or up to 3hrs if the AED is taught. It is done in a very relaxed way so that new skills can be learnt quickly and enjoyably.
