Being active is the single best thing you can do for your health!

In fact being inactive has a worse effect on your health than smoking, diabetes and obesity all added together - "smokadiabesity". We have actually known this for a few years from work from North Carolina - but recent work from Nottingham University which found exactly the same has sparked interest from the UK media.

Its not just physical activity - the amount of time sitting is also linked to the risk of developing serious illness and so trying to minimise sedentary activities such as TV and computer games can be another huge plus for your long term health.

Can everyone safely exercise? - well in terms of 30 minutes walking probably yes! - but anyone with a health problem should probably get a little bit of advice to make sure they are doing the right type of activity for them. Inevitiably if we increase activity in a population we will get a few injuries - but the majority will improve over a few days with simple principals of protect, rest, ice, compression and elevation. This is known as PRICES principals.
