Volunteers

Volunteers are the ‘engine room’ of Lucky2BHere and for any such charity to mature and become meaningful there requires a high degree of commitment and belief. From its inception Lucky2BHere has relied on a huge number of individuals who all understood the need to provide the missing and lifesaving link between the moment of a cardiac arrest and the arrival of an ambulance.

In 2007 it all started with a few easily persuaded ‘friends’ of Ross Cowie who came together to provide direction and advice to get the charity ‘off and running’. Very quickly thereafter people stepped forward to raise vital funds, help with administration or assist with the teaching of the Emergency Life Support (ELS) training package that is now widely recognised for its excellence and ease of learning.

In communities around Scotland, medical & health professionals are ably supported by RNLI Lifeboat Crews, bank managers, teachers, shinty development officers and other like-minded, enthusiastic and community spirited individuals. They all provide their time, without question, to ensure that the ‘chain of survival’ is given the best opportunity to enable an effective and timely response to a life threatening situation sometimes in both rural and urban locations.

There are now several thousand people who have all received ELS training and we think of them as all Lucky2BHere volunteers working away in their respective communities ready to react to an emergency situation. Our volunteers are the reason that Lucky2BHere is the success that it is.
